Our Mission

The Black Pride Society is committed to promoting and nurturing pride among black same gender loving, gay, lesbian, bi-attractional and transgender people of African descent in Southeast Michigan and beyond through the celebration of culture, self-identity and empowerment.

About Us

The Black Pride Society, Inc, (BPSociety, Inc) is a 501 (c) (3) Michigan based nonprofit organization dedicated to efforts that cultivate and nurture pride in Black SGL/LGBT individuals, families and communities.  We exist to promote and support positive and collective community-building efforts that affirm and celebrate Black same gender loving, gay, lesbian, bi-attractional and transgender peoples through culture, self-empowerment, identity, social activism and civic engagement.

BPSociety, Inc is the proud steward, producer and sponsor of the Midwest’s oldest black lesbian, gay, bi-attractional and transgender pride celebration.  We humbly acknowledge the generous efforts of numerous volunteers, community leaders, friends, family and allies that have afforded us the privilege of producing and sponsoring what has become an annual historic celebration in our community, Detroit’s Hotter Than July!  We are equally proud that our efforts have served as a model for other black pride celebrations across the United States.
